Most site-level regulatory training is, in my candid view, the silent failure mode of clinical research operations. A new regulatory coordinator arrives on Monday. The departing one has two weeks left. They sit together. The departing coordinator opens whatever submission happens to be due that week and walks through it. The new one takes notes. After two weeks, the departing coordinator leaves, and the new one figures out everything else by encountering it.

I have watched this pattern play out at academic medical centers, community hospital sites, and dedicated research networks alike. It is not laziness. It is not negligence. It is, in nearly every case, an honest attempt by overworked staff to transfer expertise under impossible time constraints. But the result is the same: institutional knowledge gaps that surface six months later, when a monitor asks a question the new coordinator cannot answer, or when an inspector asks for a process the site never formalized.

The alternative is structured curriculum. Not a binder. Not a checklist of acronyms. A sequenced learning program, designed so that what a new staff member encounters first is what they most need to know, and what they encounter later builds on what they have already mastered.
